A friendly reminder about sharing content
I'm sure everybody here that reads this knows the score, but I feel I need to reiterate this just to be certain -
Please, whenever posting any PP content you purchased, either via a membership subscription download, or from a pay-per-clip agreement like clips4sale or a clip store, you MUST have the express permission of the site owner to share it with anyone. If you wish to share video content with other people and do not have express consent of the owner, by all means either do what I did and purchase it for them, or simply post a short preview, and keep the video private. If uploading stuff to youtube for the benefit of one or two other people (and again, this must never be the full video - a short preview of a maximum of 30 seconds, ideally no more than 10), please make sure you select 'unlisted' to avoid the video spreading on the public internet, or better yet, make the video private and allow access on a person-by-person basis. Our segment of the internet is vulnerable, and we simply cannot risk webmasters deciding to close their sites due to content plagiarism. THINK BEFORE YOU SHARE Have a great day Sam |

RE: A friendly reminder about sharing content
You do realize that 'Fair Use' doesn't apply to clips such as these and even using snippets is a violation of DMCA & copyright laws. Unless, of course, the producer gave permission, which will be the minority.
Not trying to sound like a prick and I'm sure you mean well but this is the same type of mindset people start out, sharing it with their friends but that eventually turns into much much more. It's one of the things I had to fight constantly on my forums, certain individuals who felt they had a 'right' to share my content. I've fought hard and put a lot of time and money into combating illegal file sharing and folks who feel they have the 'right' to share my content via Youtube, vimeo, etc. With that said, I do have a big issue with these forums encouraging sharing in such a manner. Producers decide on how they market their content and customers can choose if it's worth it to spend their money based on what they've seen. |

RE: A friendly reminder about sharing content
It's for that very reason I have left the PM system here disabled, as no doubt I'm sure you recommended to Kate during its initial setup. I have no current plans to change that (Although if I find a way of locking it down to messaging administrators only, I may try and at least do that).
I'm well aware copyright laws, including fair use are much different to this sort of material than anything else, but quite frankly, I have never felt that the open discussion nature of a forum should be impeded by attempts to curb content piracy. There may very well be people that sign up with the intention of sharing content unlawfully - I hope that's not the case, but it probably will be at some stage. However, minus the PM system they will need to carry things out in open forum and at this stage, this forum isn't large enough for new posts that might contain such to escape my notice. As of now it's largely academic as pretty much the only person that's shared content in here is myself. If you are unhappy for anything related to PTP to appear on here, just say the word, and a blanket restriction on posting material from you will be in place. Any other webmasters have the right to do the same. Deterring webmasters through sharing risks is the last thing we wanted when setting this up, we want to try and keep on your good sides |

RE: A friendly reminder about sharing content
If I came across to harsh, it wasn't my intention. From what I recall of my discussions with Kate, I don't recall giving her any input on what to do or not to do. I think I just mentioned how it can be challenging and good luck, something to that extent.
I'm not trying to ruffle feathers, just wanted to state my piece that the best laid plans....well...you know. |

RE: A friendly reminder about sharing content
No of course, I may have hopped around PP forums before, but I certainly haven't run one before, so I'm anxious to make sure we please all parties. The whole 'plenty more fish in the sea' really doesn't apply with pedal pumping, so we want to hold on to as many contributors as we can!
It may not have been you, and I apologise if it seemed like I put words in her mouth. Some store providers (one she mentioned by name which is not you) have definitely spoken up about it though, hence why the action was taken. It wasn't a demand, more just an advisory, but I can agree with their sentiments. It's difficult to keep PMs in check when the user base grows. I'm working on my first review from PTP tonight, which will take the same format as the other reviews I've carried out unless I hear otherwise. It's a very old clip and dates back I believe to within the first year since launch, but I've always loved it so it seemed like a good place to start. Any complaints about how much is shared, by all means let me know So far I'm very pleased with how this forum has turned out, and all input is appreciated. Thanks for participating! |
